Linux Hardisk question

I'm using Linux RH 9, UAE v0.8.21, and the graphical gui. I'm having trouble using the hardisk images I used dd to make it. I boot up my emulator and its there but it reads 0k capacity 10% used. I go to format it and its tells me theres no space on the drive (image). I even tried the -W option on the command line loading the program, and editing the .uaerc file. Can anyone give me help.
